HUD POSTS AUGUST 2026 CDBG-DR AND CDBG-MIT PERFORMANCE REPORTS
HUD has published its latest monthly performance reports for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) and Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) programs, providing an updated look at grant balances, spending progress, closeout activity and other financial performance across active disaster-recovery and mitigation grants.
The August reporting package, current as of August 1, 2026, includes six reports covering different parts of HUD’s disaster-recovery portfolio.
The August package includes:
CDBG-DR Grant History Report — HUD’s comprehensive point-in-time view of Community Planning and Development-administered disaster grants dating back to 1992.
CDBG-MIT Grant Financial Report — Tracks active mitigation grants by grantee, including award amounts, remaining balances and the percentage of funds expended.
CDBG-DR Grants Financial Report — Tracks active disaster-recovery grants by state and identifies grant balances as well as grantees HUD classifies as “On Pace” or “Slow Spenders.”
2008 Grants Targeted for Closeout — Identifies older grants targeted for closeout and grants already in or preparing for the closeout process.
CDBG-DR Affordable Rental Housing Expenditures — Tracks the progress of applicable 2006 and 2008 grantees toward affordable-rental-housing expenditure requirements.
Disaster Recovery Enhancement Fund Expenditures — Tracks grantee progress toward DREF expenditure requirements and identifies spending and reporting shortfalls.
HUD updates these reports monthly, giving grantees and other stakeholders a recurring snapshot of how disaster-recovery and mitigation funds are progressing.
For CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT grantees, these reports are more than a historical record.
The CDBG-DR Grants Financial Report provides a federal-level view of active grants and spending performance. HUD specifically uses the report to identify grants that are on pace and those classified as slow spenders.
The CDBG-MIT report similarly shows the amount awarded to each active mitigation grantee, its remaining grant balance and the percentage of the award that has been expended.
That makes the monthly reports useful benchmarks for state and local agencies administering HUD disaster funds, as well as consultants, developers and organizations participating in projects supported by those grants.
HUD also continues to separately track certain 2008 disaster-recovery grants targeted for closeout.
That report identifies grants already in closeout or preparing for closeout and sorts them by remaining grant balance.
For affected grantees, the continuing appearance of older awards in HUD's monthly reporting underscores the importance of resolving outstanding expenditures, reporting obligations and other closeout requirements.
One report in the monthly package focuses specifically on affordable rental housing.
HUD's CDBG-DR Affordable Rental Housing Expenditures report tracks the progress of applicable 2006 and 2008 grantees toward their affordable-rental-housing expenditure requirements.
This makes the report particularly relevant to housing agencies and affordable-housing stakeholders working with older disaster-recovery awards.
HUD also separately tracks Disaster Recovery Enhancement Fund expenditures, including spending and reporting shortfalls.
Organizations administering CDBG-DR or CDBG-MIT funding should compare the August reports with their own grant records and prior reporting periods.
Changes in remaining balances and expenditure percentages can provide an early indication of spending progress, while a “Slow Spender” designation in HUD's CDBG-DR reporting deserves particular attention.
Grantees approaching closeout should also review whether their awards appear in HUD's closeout reporting and ensure that their financial and program records are consistent with HUD's published information.
HUD's August 2026 reports provide the latest federal snapshot of CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT grant performance.
For grantees, housing agencies and organizations working with disaster-recovery funds, the reports offer a straightforward way to track spending progress, remaining balances, closeout activity and certain affordable-housing expenditure requirements.
The August reports are current as of August 1, 2026, and HUD continues to update the reporting series monthly.
-Review HUD’s August 1, 2026 CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT reports for applicable grants. -Compare HUD-reported grant balances and expenditure percentages with internal records. -Check CDBG-DR awards for any “Slow Spender” designation. -Review older grants for closeout status or remaining balances. -Confirm applicable affordable-rental-housing and DREF expenditure requirements. -Investigate material discrepancies between HUD’s published data and internal grant records.
HUD’s monthly CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT reports give grantees and housing stakeholders a current federal snapshot of disaster-recovery and mitigation funding performance, including remaining balances, expenditure progress, slow-spender status and closeout activity. Agencies administering these funds should use the August reports to compare HUD’s published data against their own records and identify grants that may require additional attention.
State and local CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT grantees, housing and community-development agencies, disaster-recovery program administrators, affordable-housing organizations, developers, consultants and other organizations involved in HUD-funded disaster-recovery and mitigation projects.
HUD's August 2026 performance reports for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) and Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) programs provide critical insights into grant balances, expenditure progress, and closeout activities. These reports serve as essential tools for state and local grantees, enabling them to align their records with federal data, identify slow-spending grants, and ensure compliance with affordable housing expenditure requirements, ultimately impacting disaster recovery and mitigation efforts nationwide.
